This month is not only to reflect on the history of Women, history, and breakthrough, but to also celebrate and highlight Women in the present. On LuxuryofSPC Hospitality, I am excited to curate a series called LuxuryofHer. This series will highlight women who are redefining luxury and purpose in their own way! Tanaysha A. Smith: T. Smith Consulting and More...

Why Tanaysha A. Smith? I was personally inspired by her warm presence and journey. If it is one thing I love about managing a blog is that I get to connect and reflect on amazing individuals especially when there's so much synergy. (Photo Credit: Tanaysha A. Smith)

Career Snapshot: Tanaysha Smith started her formal career in government consulting as a Strategic Communications Consultant after several years of interning and holding contract positions for companies like Rent the Runway to Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants.

Next, she moved into an External Communications and Community Relations position with a regional grocery retailer, which opened the opportunity to lead events & trade shows applying her skill sets from being a freelancer for many years. Currently, Tanaysha A. Smith is the Marketing Manager of a boutique lifestyle hotel in Washington, D.C., in addition to her recently launched business, T. Smith Consulting which provides creative direction, branding/marketing strategy, special events planning, and image consulting. Luxury of Knowing the Why: Tanaysha has always been involved in communications and events from a young age throwing mock events for her family and hosting "talk shows" as young as daycare age. She also remembers attending a talk by NYU Stern legend Scott Galloway, and he mentioned "following the breadcrumbs" in making career and educational decisions. So reflecting she thought about how she also enjoyed fashion, wearing her mother's clothes, shoes, and makeup, she knew that ultimately wanted to work in some form of communication with a lifestyle brand or in the luxury industry.

What Matters as a Black Woman

""One of the things that I have made a priority recently is rest and releasing the spirit of what I call, ""superwoman syndrome."" As a woman, particularly a Black woman, the need to excel at everything had become detrimental to ""prioritizing me."" It's also very important for me to support and build community with other women.""

What does Luxury mean to you?

""Surprisingly, studying global luxury and management in graduate school, I have never been asked to define luxury personally. Luxury is the space that exists beyond ""necessity"" that creates and maximizes a desire. It's leaning into desire and fulfilling a need based on the tangible or intangible. Basically, its going after and doing what you want.""
